FARMERS' MARKETS
AND LOCAL PRODUCE
Farmers' markets in the Peak
District and Derbyshire are an opportunity to buy local food and products direct
from local farmers, producers and craft persons.
Only products which have been produced, grown, raised, baked or caught locally
are at the markets. Normally these are grown from within 30 miles of the markets
(unless there is no business supplying a particular product within 30 miles)
Usually the producer's family are stallholders, and as such will be more than
happy to answer any questions or queries you may have regarding the product.
All the stallholders must comply with relevant food safety and hygiene
regulations.
No GM organisms can be knowingly sold. Many stallholders will be registered
organic producers, and as they say organic produce is always free range.
So, if your fancy is buffalo sausages, locally produced wines and beers, award
winning cheeses, scrumptious home baked cakes and pastries or the best organic
meats and eggs you have ever tasted then a visit to our local farmers markets is
a must for you and your family.
A number of local farmers also sell produce direct from the farm, keep an eye
out as you are touring the area. Local shops also sell a range of Peak District
produce.
